The print edition is still my favorite field guide, and this app is likewise the one I turn to first, even though it doesn’t have some of the information and features found in other apps. If you are coming from the east and want to be prepared to find CA species, use Dick Walton's "Birding by Ear-west". If you are interested in birds, you will find it more fun if you can identify them. Blanchan’s volume was large like Wright’s book, certainly not small enough to carry into the field. I think one additional aspect deserves being mentioned. I dropped my previous copy into the water more than once and my current copy is about 15 years old.
